Special Covid-19

Since the announcement of the closure of the borders and air space in Mauritius in March 2020 in addition to cancellation of connecting flights in various countries, all Mauritian nationals who found themselves stranded abroad  were requested to contact either the Mauritian Diplomatic Missions closer where they were located or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius with a view to registering themselves for eventual repatriation.

The High Commission in Canberra, in collaboration with our Honorary Consuls in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Queensland and New Zealand, has been actively involved in the organization of two flights namely on 22 March for 38 Mauritian nationals and later on 6 June for 154.

Several challenges cropped up and the High Commission has done its level best to address all the concerns of our nationals stranded across Australia namely in Perth, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane in addition to those from New Zealand, Fiji, New Caledonia and Japan.

Despite the multifaceted challenges prior to the departure of the passengers on the repatriation flight, it must be highlighted that that the two repatriation flights of 22 March and 6 June 2020 were done in an orderly manner with the precious collaboration of the Honorary Consuls in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Queensland and New Zealand and of Regional Office of Air Mauritius in Australia.
